A helping hand to tidy yards
The yards of several public housing properties have received a long-awaited spruce, thanks to a new program run by Larrakia Nation and supported by our Department.
Beginning in July this year, the Larrakia Tidy Yards Program has already transformed 5 yards, enhancing safety, as well as tenants’ enjoyment of their homes. While Larrakia Nation has long supported tenants with affordable equipment hire for garden maintenance, this new project goes further, offering heavily subsidised yard maintenance for those struggling to keep on top of things.
‘Some people are really keen for the help because they are physically unable to maintain their yard … they may have just recovered from surgery or have some other reason that means they are temporarily unable to do the maintenance themselves,’ explains A/Manager of Housing Operations, Leah Hudson.
‘The way Larrakia Nation engage with tenants, who are often in really difficult circumstances, is fantastic.’
Victor Williams, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Larrakia Nation, says the program is a ‘great initiative.’
‘It gives people an opportunity to maintain their yards who may not have the ability or the equipment to complete this themselves.’
With works commencing in several more properties, this important program extends a helping hand to turn Darwin into an even tidier town.
