Alice Springs moves from dust to development

Published

With Alice Springs on track to see new dwellings by Christmas, our community housing team travelled from Darwin to join regional colleagues for a visit to the Nicker Crescent site where 3 new houses are being built.

The additional supply of social housing in the region will ensure low-income households have greater access to safe and affordable accommodation.

The project has been made possible through the Federal Government’s Social Housing Accelerator Program (SHAP), which allocated $50M to the NT Government to deliver up to 100 new homes by the end of this year – with 23 dedicated to the community housing sector.

For this project, our department is providing the land and working closely with Community Housing Central Australia (CHCA) who was awarded the contract to construct 5 of the 23 dwellings, following a competitive grants process.

Tenancies will be offered to applicants on the Northern Territory’s social housing waitlist.

We’re looking forward to welcoming tenants to their new homes in early 2026.
