Local Government training tour

Published

Our Local Government team is touring a professional development training program for elected and local authority members, who are in positions of leadership in councils, to provide them with the skills and knowledge to effectively navigate challenges and deliver on their responsibilities.

With 6 courses that are mandatory training for councillors, the program covers topics from finance management and understanding local government, roles and responsibilities through to conflicts of interest, code of conduct and decision making.

The West Arnhem and Roper Gulf Regional Councils are the latest to undergo the training. Karen Hocking, Manager Strategic Projects and Development, and Jacob Leonard, Senior Project Officer, travelled from Darwin to meet face-to-face with the elected members, to deliver the modules in an environment that fosters deeper engagement and learning experiences.

A councillor who recently joined the Roper Gulf Regional Council (RGRC) was able to apply the new knowledge during conversations with key-leaders at the recent Local Government Association of the Northern Territory (LGANT) symposium in Katherine, with many of the RGRC elected members attending to network and collaborate with others in the sector.

The RGRC local authorities in Jilkminggan, Mataranka, Borroloola and Robinson River were next in line to undertake the training, covering topics focused on the roles and responsibilities of local authority members.

A big thank you to the elected members who undertook the training, for your engagement and interest in developing your skills and gaining new knowledge.
