New homes for Ramingining families

Published

Arlene, Scott and Ava are among 5 families in Ramingining to move into new homes thanks to the HomeBuildNT program.

The HomeBuildNT Program focuses on constructing homes that are purpose built to meet needs of each community, through consultation with its members, offering long-term housing solutions.

Located approximately 56km east of Darwin, Ramingining has seen 40 of the 51 planned homes completed so far - and for this family, moving in was a milestone moment. Scott’s younger brother Marco made a special guest appearance as they stepped into their new home for the first time and Tenancy Contract Officer Debbie and Senior Housing Officer Donna travelled to Ramingining to personally hand over the keys and support the transition.

Also underway in Ramingining is the Room to Breath program, which is delivering upgrades to existing homes, including home extensions, to improve liveability, with tenants having direct input into the design. To date, 16 of the 21 renovations have been completed.

This work is part of a $4 billion, 10-year remote housing investment, which aims to build up to 2,700 new rental homes in remote areas.

These projects support our mission to provide responsive, high quality housing solutions that help build safer, stronger, and more sustainable living environments for Aboriginal communities.
