Pmara Jutunta enters new memorandum of understanding
On 4 June, not-for-profit organisation Many Rivers signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pmara Jutunta Aboriginal Corporation (PJAC), committing to support the Pmara Jutunta (Ti Tree 6-mile) community with governance, economic development, and capacity building, and provide administration assistance to the corporation, over the next 5 years.
PJAC also secured two important leases; one, for the soon-to-be-established community store, an initiative outlined in the Central Australian plan: community infrastructure package, and a ‘front door’ office space. For more information go to the Minister Infrastructure website.
The new leases will also pave the way for the community to have a growth revenue stream, greater control over local services and infrastructure, access to affordable goods, new job opportunities, and a base for PJAC’s operations – supporting economic development, community wellbeing, and cultural control.
This long journey began in 2023, when the Pmara Jutunta community first advocated for its own representative body in decision-making during the OCARC consultations, leading to the establishment of PJAC.
Our Delivery and Regional Priorities team (DRP), Many Rivers organisation, and Penangke Consultancy, have supported PJAC over the past 12 months to fulfill the criteria for assistance. This included ORIC compliance, the development of a strategic plan, management and board capability, land tenure, and a sustainable revenue stream.
Mick Turner, Chairperson PJAC, highlighted the anticipated impact the partnership will have on the community.
‘We have nothing. I’ve witnessed much suffering in my community. My vision is to take back control—to employ local people, encourage youth, improve housing and services, and create better outcomes for my Anmatjere people.’
With strong partnerships, clear vision, and growing support, we look forward to seeing the meaningful, community-driven change set to take place in Pmara Jutunta.
