Teams unite for Katherine site visit
Members of our Darwin based Programs, System Improvement and Reform team recently headed to Katherine to meet with community housing provider St Vincent De Paul (SVDP) and our local crew in the Big Rivers region at the Bernhard Street social housing complex. It wasn’t just a site visit – it was a chance to connect, share insights and explore new ways we can support tenants.
The visit gave us the opportunity to see recent improvements first-hand, talk about what’s working, and plan for what’s next.
Some of the key improvements SVDP has implemented include:
- bollards installed around the complex’s car parks to prevent cars from entering the grounds, helping to reduce safety concerns for residents
- increased security presence, with a private patrol engaged during busy times, when there is an increase in visitors to the area
- upgraded surveillance, with new security cameras installed in common areas thanks to funding SVDP received from the Northern Territory Government Biz Secure grant
- well-maintained grounds, with regular up-keep of outdoor spaces, contributing to a more pleasant, inviting and community-friendly environment.
SVDP is also utilising the on-site community hall - not only as a space for residents to gather, but also as a small office where tenants can report repairs, raise maintenance concerns, or get advice on rent charges – all directly from their community housing provider.
Zoe Keeler, Director Community Housing Growth and Reform, said the visit was a fantastic opportunity for all 3 teams to come together and strengthen working relationships.
'The teams had some excellent discussions where staff shared valuable insights about how they can collaborate to enhance asset and tenancy management services to ensure tenants receive the support they need to feel safe and secure in their homes'.
The improvements support our goals of providing safe and secure housing options, where individuals and families feel comfortable and at ease in their homes.
A big thank you to everyone who took the time to meet, share insights, and showcase the good work being done.
