Territorians have had their say
Following a territory-wide journey to hear from our communities about their views on the proposed changes to the Local Government Act 2019 - Tranche 2, we are now focused on ensuring their voices help shape the reforms ahead.
What took place
Our Local Government team brought together community members, elected councillors, and organisations, through public consultations, to discuss how the Act can be improved to support councils in delivering greater outcomes for communities.
Private consultations were also held with regional and remote councils, where elected members provided valuable operational insights to ensure reforms are practical and tailored to the needs of the local people.
The online survey also played a key role in making sure everyone had a chance to participate, no matter their location.
Where did we go
The team travelled from Darwin to Alice Springs, Tennant Creek to Katherine, and Groote Eylandt to Nhulunbuy, as well as the Tiwi Islands, to meet face-to-face with participants.
What was discussed
Topics ranged from council transparency, code of conduct and representation, through to governance processes and community engagement.

What happens now
We are currently reviewing all feedback and look forward to sharing any amendments to the Act with you over the coming months. Thank you to everyone who participated.
