Legislative Amendments to the Local Government Act 2019
The Local Government Unit has been leading the way on proposed amendments to the Local Government Act 2019 to support councils to practice good governance and engage in greater transparency and accountability.
As part of the second tranche of legislative amendments, three detailed discussion papers were released for community feedback.
Each discussion paper focuses on specific areas of the legislation:
- Part A focuses on practical amendments to delegations, procurement, and regulatory improvements.
- Part B details proposed changes to superannuation payments, rating frameworks and principal member appointment.
- Part C is dedicated to proposed amendments to the Code of Conduct.
The feedback process is now concluded. All feedback, written submissions, and community consultation have been collated. A summary of feedback is available below.
Public consultations
We will be holding public consultation sessions around the Northern Territory. You can register to attend a session by emailing lglaw.dhlgcd@nt.gov.au.
If you are unable to attend in person, a link can be sent to you so you can participate online.
All sessions are between 1.5 and 2 hours in duration.
