Legislative Amendments to the Local Government Act 2019

The Local Government Unit has been leading the way on proposed amendments to the Local Government Act 2019 to support councils to practice good governance and engage in greater transparency and accountability. Now it’s your turn to have a say!

As part of the second tranche of legislative amendments, we have released three detailed discussion papers that the community can give feedback on.

Each paper focuses on specific areas of the legislation:

• Part A focuses on practical amendments to delegations, procurement, and regulatory improvements.
• Part B details proposed changes to superannuation payments, rating frameworks and principal member appointment.
• Part C is dedicated to proposed amendments to the Code of Conduct.

Providing feedback on these discussion papers will help us improve the legislation that underpins how councils function, supporting strong and responsive local government across the Northern Territory.

All feedback, written submissions, and community consultation will be completed by 20 June 2025.
